Author, Robin Finn

Listen:

I feel as if I’ve known Robin for a long time. We first connected on social media and then through various groups we are both a part of as writing teachers. I was delighted to read her book  Heart. Soul. Pen.: Find Your Voice on the Page and in Your Life and think it has some great guidance for writers at every stage. I also deeply appreciated that Robin included the concept of spiritual psychology in her book, and we delved into that in our discussion.

We had a delightful conversation about all aspects of writing, voice, getting started when blocked, and deftly putting your words on the page.

In this episode:

  • The importance of spiritual psychology in writing
  • How beliefs impact our writing and revealing ourselves
  • Designing a writing ritual that works for you
  • Finding talismans for your creative work
  • Anchoring to your intention when putting words on paper
  • Art School Trauma and how to avoid it
  • At what point should writers get critical feedback?
  • Diving into the promise of “trigger lines”
  • How to find inspiration through story prompts
  • Advice for memoirists on telling your stories and radical self expression
